M other nature has blessed us with huge reserves of mineral resources and limestone is one of them.Limestone is a naturally occurring sedimentary rock that provides many benefits to the natural world like Water purification, Carbon sequestration, sulpher neutralisation and useful in agriculture industry.
As per NMI (National Mining Inventory) database based on UNFC (United Nations Framework Classification) system as on 1.4.2015 India has huge reservoir of limestone with an estimated reserves of 2,03,224 million tonnes (Data from Indian Mineral Book 2020).
F rom years Indian lime industry has battled a lot of challenges on its path of transformation from unorganised to organised sector. However, we have won some battles but yet to win the war of complete transformation. Indian Lime Industry has standardised itself to some extent but the benchmark is still far.

Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 1st November, 2021 presented his five-point agenda, which he called the five ‘amrit tattva’ (nectar elements), while delivering the ‘National Statement’ at the COP-26 conference in Glasgow, Scotland.
- India will reach its non-fossil energy capacity to 500 GW by 2030.
- India will meet 50 percent of its energy requirements from renewable energy by 2030.
- India will reduce the total projected carbon emissions by one billion tonnes from now onwards till 2030.
- By 2030, India will reduce the carbon intensity of its economy by less than 45 percent.
- By the year 2070, India will achieve the target of Net Zero. These panchamrits will be an unprecedented contribution of India to climate action.
